Dubai
Dubai is an enticing, multicultural haven of thrills, sun, shopping, and fun. It’s one of those destinations with so much to give; you can truly return again and again without doing the same thing twice.
If you like to be impressed and indulged, all while gaining that gorgeous golden tan, then Dubai is for you.
Our top tips for Dubai
- Travel between October and April. The Summer heat can be exceptionally oppressive, reaching temperatures well over 40 centigrade at its height. You’ll be much more comfortable in the Winter months, where the temperatures sit comfortably around 30 degrees! Don’t be too worried, Dubai is very well air conditioned indoors so you can easily escape the heat if it’s too much for you.
- Take an open top bus tour! Dubai is spread out and there are lots of fascinating districts and landmarks that you won’t be able to reach by foot alone. There’s an array of different City Sightseeing tours to choose from. If you stay on the coach the whole time the trip takes about two and a half hours, I would recommend getting off and spending some time in an area of your interest, then hopping back on to keep going when you’re ready! They run on an hourly basis. It’s a great day out to plan in advance. Also, while it’s an open top bus, they’re all sheltered so you won’t be sat in direct sunlight the whole time.
- Respect the culture. First time visitors of Dubai are often concerned about the conservative nature of the city and are unsure about how to keep safe. The main things to remember are not to get drunk in public, to avoid public displays of affection, and to make sure you are dressed appropriately. The way I like to think about it is if you wouldn’t wear it when meeting your partner’s parents, don’t wear it in Dubai!!! So long as you respect the culture, you can relax and have a lovely time in Dubai without really having to think about it.
- If you want to visit the colossal Burj Khalifa make sure to book in advance! Prepaying your entry ticket could save you more than half than entry fees at the door. If you want to include this in your package, simply ask us when you book and we can find you the best ticket.
- Do you like water parks? Dubai has three. Aquaventure Atlantis is set to become the largest in the world, Wild Wadi is located just by the Burj Al Arab (the iconic sail shaped hotel), and the Legoland waterpark which is perfect for younger children.
- Shopping! You can’t go to Dubai without going shopping – it’s simply impossible! Forget everything you know about shopping malls as Dubai takes them to a completely new level. With over 1,200 shops, 120 restaurants and cafes, a sports district, virtual reality park, soft play, cinemas, an AQUARIUM, and so much more, you would have to spend a whole weekend here to see everything!!
- It’s easy to forget that Dubai is a desert city as you just don’t see it behind the sky scrapers from ground level! There are so many things to do in the desert from hot air balloon rides, jeep safaris, quad bikes, small plane rides, camel rides, all the way to spending nights in desert camps and dining in the desert by candle light!
- Aside from desert and city life, Dubai is also home to some great beaches! Lots of coastal hotels have their own private beaches, but there are some fantastic public beaches to choose from too. Most public beaches have facilities to change, eat, and even sports equipment to rent so if you’re exhausted from your shopping and exploring, the beaches are a great place to relax.
- Dubai Marina is a really beautiful part of Dubai, and also somewhere we would recommend staying. It’s one of the most sought-after neighbourhoods in the city with luxury skyscrapers, a bounty of entertainment, countless dining options, and it’s probably the only properly walkable places in the city. Watch ultra-luxury yachts cruise down the marina, do a spot of shopping, or relax on one of the sandy stretches by the water.
- Public transport is so easy in Dubai, perfect for such a spread-out city. The Metro is easy and inexpensive. Pick up a NOL card (rechargeable chip card) to use for all buses, metro and tram! Different NOL cards allow for different trips/modes of transportation so make sure you pick up the one that’s relevant for you.
